Windows 8 and Windows 7, who is tougher?

Windows 8 is the operating system are expected today, with new technology fitted. However, if Windows 8 is actually superior to its predecessor Windows 7? Together make a few comparisons to find the answer.

Startup time: Windows 8 surpassed Windows 7

As expected Microsoft has no exaggeration to claim that Windows 8 superior speed compared to previous Windows versions.
During the same test when installing Windows 8 and Windows 7 on a computer, Windows 7 takes 92 seconds to complete the boot process, while Windows 8 only took 38 seconds.
Meanwhile, on 2 ultrabook test, which is equipped with intelligent technology startup, Windows 7, it took 29 seconds to boot, while Windows 8 more impressive, just less than 10 seconds to complete its startup process.
The chart compares the boot speed of Windows 7 and Windows 8 on the first computer (shorter is faster)

Speed data replication: Windows 7 faster than Windows 8

Although Microsoft has been equipped with data replication on Windows 8, which allows users to pause the copy process (copy) and return later if necessary, but in the course of the test results Windows 8 showed no gain speed as fast as Windows 7.
During testing on a Dell Inspiron 15, the same for 4.7 GB of data replication, Windows 7 shows reach a maximum speed of 24 MB / s, while Windows 8 only achieve a maximum 23 MB / s.
This difference is a big difference than when tested on the tablet (Samsung Series 7) and ultrabook (Asus Zenbook). In particular, Windows 7 in turn achieve maximum speed (corresponding to the tablet and ultrabook) is 68 MB / s and 98 MB / s. While, on the same devices equivalent, Windows 8 is only achieved a maximum speed of 27 MB / s and 34 MB / s, very much lower than Windows 7.
Compare speed data replication on Windows 7 and Windows 8 (the greater the faster speed)

Performance evaluation software: There was no significant difference

When using the evaluation software PCMark07 and scored on the same system a computer (laptop and ultrabook), the final results showed no much difference between the performance of Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Specifically, Windows 8 on the laptop scored 1442 and scored 3964 on ultrabook. Windows 7 also achieved a more modest results, as only 1278 and 3606 points on ultrabook laptop.
However, the difference in 100 or 200 points on the evaluation of software systems such as PCMark07 is not a big difference and did not claim much of the difference in performance.
The test can not test this on the tablet because the device does not support the software.
The chart compares the performance of Windows 7, and 8 (bigger is better)

Processing speed calculation: Windows 7 via the Windows 8

When using the spreadsheet tool Speardsheet Test of OpenOffice, 20,000 spreadsheets, Windows 7 only takes 12 minutes and 45 seconds to complete the results of running on Samsung Series 7 tablet. While it takes Windows 8 to 14 minutes 8 seconds in the same test conditions.
When tested on the Asus ultrabook Zenbook, results better (thanks to the superior configuration of ultrabook) when Windows 7 is only 5 minutes 50 seconds to complete the calculation, while Windows 8 would take 8 minutes 55 seconds to do the same.

Performance graphics processor: is basically equal

Use grading software performance graphics processors that are similar results across the two operating systems.
Specifically, when using 3DMark06 software on my laptop, Windows 8 score achieved is 1689, close to 1725 that Windows 7 results achieved. When testing carried out with a game (ie game "World of Warcraft), the two operating systems that achieve an average speed of 17 frames / sec.
Similarly, when using 3DMark06 on the machine table shows Windows 8 who score at 1650, slightly exceeding the score in 1642 of Windows 7. When tested with a game played on a tablet, Windows 7 reached a maximum speed of 11 frames / sec, while Windows 8 reached a maximum 13 frames / sec.
When similar tests on ultrabook Windows 8 results show that the graphics processor speed is somewhat superior to Windows 7. Specifically, Windows 8 who score up to 4360, than in 3761 of Windows 7 score. When testing the game with high graphics settings, Windows 8 speeds can reach 28 frames / sec, compared with speeds in excess of 26 frames / sec of Windows 7.
The performance of graphics processors to surpass Windows 8 Windows 7 on ultrabook (longer is better)

Battery life: Windows 7 victory

Although equipped with many features to manage energy more efficiently, but in the process of testing the battery life for use on Windows 8 lower than the "predecessor" of it, on the laptop, tablet and ultrabook.
Specifically, the test laptop battery life by surfing on the Web via a wireless connection on Firefox, laptops with the use of 3 hours 7 minutes on Windows 7, Windows 8, but with only 2 hours 45 minutes .
As for ultrabook, the battery capacity is increased many times over laptop, Windows 7 has been 5 hours 58 minutes duration, while Windows 8 less than the 4 hours 55 minutes. Similarly, when tested on tablet PCs, Windows 7 is superior to the time of 5 hours 49 minutes, while Windows 8 only modest at 3 hours and 36 minutes.
Compare results using a battery life (longer is better)

Is Windows 7 better than Windows 8?

With the above results, we can see that Windows 7 is superior to Windows 8, but is this really true?
At the opening of the Consumer Preview Windows 8 in late February at the MWC the past, Microsoft spokesman said: "at this time, it was too early and limped to use grading software Windows 8 ". And it looks like Microsoft's foresight is absolutely right.

The real power of Windows 8 only proven after the official launch

Currently only Windows 8 still in Beta version stops when the driver and the device is not fully compatible with the new operating system, Windows 8, the strength is not its full power to exploit the hardware is understandable.

And it was too early to frustration on Windows 8, when comparing the operating system is still in development stage, with an operating system already 3 years old (Windows 7 launch in 2008) . The real power of Windows 8 will need to wait until Microsoft operating system was officially unveiled, expected in autumn this year, can get a final conclusion.

The "specialty" of the tablet in 2012

Tablet in the next 12 months will have more in molting compared to what took place this year from processing speed, interoperability design model for the design.
2012 will be the focus of a new generation of Apple iPad, army tablet running Android 4.0 and the launch of the tablet on Windows 8. In particular, representatives from Nokia has announced a Windows tablet 8 of them will be released in June next year.

Lighter and thinner

With each year, the electronic products are taken care, improving the design to be refined, slimmer and that users do not feel tired hands to hold. Therefore tends to thin - light is the most visible changes on the tablet in 2012. "Standard" line of equipment will be slightly less than 500 grams, less than 8 mm thin and popular screen size is from 7 to 10 inch.

Cheaper

Amazon Kindle's success is due to Fire cheap, only 200 USD, while the majority of the 2010 range tablet 400 USD. Manufacturers will have to review the prices to be competitive in the market. CEO of chip maker Nvidia Tegra predict tablet running 3 would be reduced to an average of 300 USD in mid-2012.
Fire helps Kindle tablet cheaper.

Quad-core chips

3 Tegra processors, code-named Kal-El, quad core and 12's GeForce graphics bring new strength to the tablet, which is regarded as the main engine, suitable only for entertainment, web surfing ... common. We will catch up and configured somewhat competitive with laptop performance. Asus Prime Transformer is the first product to integrate Tegra 3 for $ 500 USD (32 GB capacity). Qualcomm also announced Snapdragon S4, is expected to appear in the second half of 2012 when Freescale and Texas Instruments announced the launch of processors based on ARM architecture similar next year.

High-definition screen

iPad 2 has a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixel, pixel density is 132 pixels / inch is 7 inch Toshiba Thrive density up to 225 pixels. This is the important factor when choosing to buy tablet because they help show content should be smooth and more beautiful world production will be focused to improve competitiveness.

Operating System

Android Ice Cream Sandwich is a merger of the Android platform 2.x (for phones) and Android 3.x (for tablet) with several important changes. HTC, LG, Samsung, Sony have plans to upgrade the product to the operating system as well as launching a new range of equipment.
Tablet running Windows 8 is one of the most awaited products in 2012.
However, Android will face two formidable opponents as IOS and Windows 8. This next-generation Windows is a major reorganization, a complete change of consumer perception of Microsoft's operating system. Unlike Windows 7, Windows 8 interface with icons Metro squares (Tile) customized for the interactive touch screen. It not only supports Intel chip that both ARM and faster boot time, help the user does not have to wait long as the previous generation of Windows.
As is usual, Apple will probably announce iPad 3 beginning in 2012 (no later than March). The company launched new iOS 5.0 to the new tablet will likely not have many significant changes to the operating system than at present.

10 products - services change lifestyle

The products and services for the following technologies are expected to play an important role in changing the work style and contemporary living.
NFC, SSD, ICS, HTML5, AR, "The Cloud" (cloud) are terms of technology can make you "crazy head" as hard to understand, but it is very "hot". The products and services applying this technology is changing the lifestyle and work rapidly. PCWorld The U.S. introduced 10 products - services technology is typical to readers.

Siri

The idea to use voice commands to the device without the need for input devices like mouse, keyboard, without even touching the touch screen ... no longer new. Song, the debut hit, as well as the exhilaration of the crowd before the appearance of "personal assistant" Siri that Apple put iPhone 4S is a sign of the technology boom in the near future. The mobile platform Android is competing with iOS and Windows Phone 7 as well instantly to plan for similar products. Of course, like Siri, they are not really perfect. What a business opportunity here is to what? Certainly companies and programmers will make numerous applications speech recognition technology in a creative way, such that users request their phone to do things like find it boring stuff snacks with the best price on a certain website sales. This technology has the potential to really break the business model fully fertile on the web search engine Google.

Near-Field Communications (NFC - the narrow range of communication)

Convenient Mobile Payment with NFC technology on a smart phone could become popular in 2012 when this type of phone, as Samsung Galaxy Galaxy S II and Nexus, are mass produced. The retailer also needs to upgrade their payment equipment, or installation of new equipment technology application that allows buyers can pay more comfortable with your credit card. But the true potential of NFC technology is probably not simply located in the expenses paid shopping. Users can use smart phones to pay their parking fees, pay bus, taxi or even find out information from the kiosks add NFC compatible devices around.
Moreover, NFC is a precondition for the development of display technology "smart poster" (for example when the user reaches the cinema and introduce that poster cinema that, they just apply phone on a poster. Immediately they receive the latest trailer and other information related to the film via magnetic card has been mounted in the front inside. Or when passing by a sign, they may just apply to to access the site through which to learn the details about the product and related services and purchase if desired).
This is a gold mine for business acumen with the application of new technology to life. NFC revolution is just beginning and will definitely boom.

Tablet PCs

All of us know the tablet is attractive to how the consumer. But using it to look from the perspective of how business will be? Along with the announcement of his device supports Microsoft Exchange, Apple has been trying to persuade big business, promoting the power of the iPad in production environments and retail operations. But this time Apple will certainly face strong competition from tablet PCs running Windows 8. The devices using Microsoft operating systems suggesting that they seem better suited to the environment of large-scale enterprises. Windows 8 will provide a platform for the security for business users want to use a unified operating system (with software running on it) on different hardware platforms such as desktop , laptops, tablet PCs.

Windows 8

Operating system Windows 8 coming official launch of Microsoft interface breakthrough than the senior most of it since Windows 95. The interface box brick-friendly touch screen interface is inherited from the Metro of Windows Phone 7 could attract the attention of the business sector and encourage them to upgrade the current operating system without worrying about afraid of the big changes in the system. The compatibility issue of Windows 8 with a large number of applications are still left open when the massive system upgrade from Windows XP and Windows 7. Block of business customers have been ignored with the Microsoft operating systems before Windows Vista when they disappoint.

HTML 5

With Adobe released a white flag - declares the end of Flash technology development for mobile browsers - the future of HTML 5 becomes extremely bright. New web programming language allows programmers to build dynamic web applications and most importantly a good run on multiple browsers and different platforms, including mobile devices and the tablet. Although the process of replacing Flash HTML 5 will not happen quickly, but the development of the mobile device generation will help accelerate this process. But HTML 5 is still in the design stage, but can say that it is the future of the browser.

3D Printer

3D printer will never be as popular sibling of its large line of laser or inkjet printer, but its position in the business activity has increased much in recent years. With new 3D printing technologies are being developed and improved, the engineers, scientists, artists, and all criminology industry can rapidly build prototypes of their three-way correctly. Recently, 3D printers have been using other materials such as stainless steel instead of plastic material which is mainly used in this field. Styrofoam and tissue paper has been in the field trial in 3D. Some researchers even believe that 3D printers are capable of creating models of human body parts.

Solid state drive SSD (Solid State Drives)

Models of Apple MacBook Air first launched in 2008 with the optional 64 GB SSD hard drive is a boost for the storage market does not use traditional hard disk. SSD is now indispensable in the line of ultra-thin notebooks like the MacBook Air or the new computer running Windows, Ultrabook. With advantages such as short startup time and energy with the ability to run applications faster, SSD is fast becoming the new standard in the computer store for business. Affected by floods, the price of traditional hard drives manufactured in Thailand and their prices are missing. This could accelerate the development of the computer using the SSD which is only a modest share of the world.

Cloud

Some people may disagree with this choice for reasons cloud computing actually is not new. Businesses also have the data repository connected to each other and can be accessed via Internet from the previous millennium. But now the trend of business on the cloud will become evident. These include the Amazon's web services (such as S3 storage service) or the Microsoft Windows Azure provides many benefits for users as well as reduce costs instead of self storage in the enterprise. The emergence of a wide range of applications "cloud" user friendly as the Apple iCloud, the Amazon Cloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Docs and Microsoft's SkyDrive as well as data backup service online businesses as Carbonite will help cloud computing becomes more popular in a short time.
Looking ahead, the user will probably prefer to hire to enjoy digital content rather than buying as before.

Android 4.0

The new OS 4.0 of Google Android for mobile devices is known for its community name quite "delicious" is "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS) has been tested to some experts. Although Android is now mainly for ordinary users, but version 4.0 has many significant improvements to the block of business users, these changes are expected to receive the support of the department IT managers in the enterprise when dealing with managing multi-platform devices. The upgrade of the ICS will be useful for corporate environments, including the ability to encode from access devices, improved management features work schedule, you can disable the application and screen-capture to error is very convenient.

Provides real-time information - Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality technology (AR) was famed Hollywood director Steven Spielberg as envisioned in the work of his film Minority Report. Now that technology is from the world of science fiction real step forward. You do not have to be Tom Cruise can enjoy and use AR technology, as it has in the mobile devices you use every day. Today, the typical AR applications can be "covered" in many places such as restaurants, bus or even on the means of collection and transfer pictures to the streets. The promising technologies like Google Goggles and Layar provides a Vision of what the AR application that brings the ability to integrate and interact great with tablets and smartphones. Imagine travelers just point the camera's built-in mobile devices to your hotel and will have immediate information, photos of rooms and prices, then can proceed to booking!

Computer Snapdragon platform Windows 8 will come in late in 2012

Personal computers running Windows 8 on the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that may be released later in 2012.
Reports from New.com in a meeting with investors in New York, Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs said the company worked with Microsoft to ensure that the processor will make its Snapdragon work well with Windows 8. Microsoft announced earlier this year that Windows 8 will be made to run on the ARM processor as to what they will do with Qualcomm.
Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 has been performed with tablets running Windows 8
Some people have pointed out that the PC Windows 8 running on an ARM processor will not run with older software programs designed for the Windows operating system in the past. However, Qualcomm executive vice president, Steve Mollenkopf said that it would not be a problem for the PC Windows 8 running on their platform. Many common PC applications will be rewritten to work on processors designed by ARM and Snapdragon. He also said that other applications will be moved to storage space on the server cloud, thereby ignoring the need of any particular processor.
He added: "For the applications that you really care, I do not see them as a significant curb growth in terms of the ARM and Windows. "

Standard outdated BIOS, UEFI replaces

BIOS - basic entry system (Basic Input / Output System), is nearing completion of their historic mission, ready to retire to make room for newer technologies - UEFI.
Extended firmware interface integration (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface - UEFI) BIOS is who succeeded, bringing many advantages and possibly implications.
Every time you turn on your computer (PC), BIOS will be loaded into system memory, check the readiness of the hardware, then turn right into the operating system boot. This process took place over 30 years with every PC in the world. But it also comes on gradually in the past. The PC maker has been gradually replaced by UEFI BIOS. It seems UEFI boot process will help secure through Secure Boot feature. This feature only allows the PC to boot with a single operating system: Windows 8.
What is happening? UEFI is the only affordable way to Microsoft and its partners original equipment manufacturer (OEM) loyalty of the "giant" Hat Linux software and alternative operating systems out territory PC? To answer, let's find out what it means UEFI.
After decades, BIOS has now become obsolete. For example, the BIOS only 1,024 KB (Kilobyte) enforcement capacity. That means the BIOS is having trouble booting the most peripheral interfaces (USB, eSATA, Thunderbolt ...), the ports, and controllers on a newer PC. One frustrating thing is not possible BIOS boot devices to within 30 seconds after turning on the switch, your computer is ready for loading the operating system process.
The company knew the computer BIOS is outdated long before the 21st century began. However, until recently, they still can not put together out alternatives.
In 1998, Intel began to launch a new initiative - "Intel Boot Initiative" (IBI), then known as "extended firmware interface" - Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI). While EFI is used in Apple Macs running Intel processors, and HP with Itanium 2 processors in its servers to use, many other OEM manufacturers and of course the chip supplier Intel rival initially not interested in the application of EFI. By 2007, Intel along with AMD, AMI, Apple, Dell, HP, IBM, Lenovo, Microsoft, Phoenix Technologies and finally reached a consensus to use UEFI (EFI brand new) instead of BIOS.
But not only UEFI BIOS replacement.
UEFI is a minimalist operating system located above the hardware and firmware of the computer. Instead of being stored in firmware, such as BIOS, UEFI program stored in the / EFI / non-volatile memory (memory is guaranteed to not corrupt data when a power failure). So UEFI may contain NAND flash memory on the motherboard (mainboard) or also to the hard drive, or even a region even on shared network resources.
Even in the still small UEFI BIOS in order to help UEFI firmware boot sequence.

Advantage of UEFI

The advantage of UEFI systems is not only fast but also in the boot able to manage the storage device with large capacity. BIOS can not boot from the hard disk with larger capacity 2.2 TB (terabyte). This limit is due to new hardware from the Master Boot Record (MBR). In the BIOS MBR, maximum capacity for a drive by 2 ^ 32 x 512 (up to 2 ^ 32 sectors; size is 512 bytes per sector), which is equivalent to 2.2 TB. This is an addressing scheme for older hard drives. Thus, the computer can not boot with the hard drives larger than 2.2 TB. With 3 TB drives are becoming popular, OEM manufacturers have no choice but to move to UEFI on the high-end PC.
UEFI using GUID partition table (Globally Unique ID), combined to provide alternative prey MBR and the partition address. Bring GUID booting from hard drive to larger size 9.4 ZB (zetabytes) - can be considered as infinite, set aside all worry about managing large hard drive with UEFI.
On the business perspective, BIOS has long been difficult for the repair and computer maintenance. Today, if the PC goes on strike can not boot, computer technicians will fix in place. BIOS too simple, does not support network connection should certainly be a lack of maintenance tools and remote troubleshooting. With UEFI, OEM manufacturers can be integrated networking capability and the basic engine repair. In terms of business, UEFI will provide better performance for the PC thanks to Quick Start and shorten the troubleshooting time with BIOS.
Where's ability to UEFI depends on chip supplier, OEM computer manufacturers, and each operating system version. Still, at least you can expect safety system boot, networking easier and faster access to all hardware components of the system. Can some vendors will develop versions of the operating system minimalist, to interact instantly via Web browser, for example, but not necessarily take the PC to boot an operating system load current.

Where problems?

If UEFI so great, why do you never heard of until recently when it emerged that the talk around Microsoft is trying to use the safety features of his boot to remove Linux from your computer ? Ironically, one of the reasons UEFI delayed for a long time is because Microsoft is not supported. Even now, 32-bit Windows does not support booting from a UEFI system. Lack of full support of Microsoft, the OEM manufacturer was not willing to move to UEFI.
In addition, new UEFI is a skeleton. If an OEM manufacturer to fully support all hardware is a main board provides support and diagnostic tools, they have to create them. The cost for this is not low. The "big" Apple, HP, and IBM have made commitments, but the other vendors are still to wait.
A UEFI based systems do not require the designer it provides the diagnostic tools and controls in a GUI system, but some OEMs, such as Asus, are providing such types of functions.
Currently, Microsoft is insisting PC running Windows 8 to secure support for UEFI boot. Starting system is designed to ensure that the PC only boot a mainstream operating system. Thus, most probably produced from the PC end of 2012, or to in 2013, will instead use UEFI BIOS Basic.
Meanwhile, the Linux developers do not start having problems with safety. Indeed, the white paper: Making Secure UEFI Boot With Open Work Platforms (PDF), The Linux Foundation organization stated that, "Linux and other open operating system will be able to take advantage of safety boots if it is integrated with the hardware. "
It is important that Microsoft continues to dodge questions they will execute How Safe Boot. Microsoft does not exclude the possibility of a dual-boot support applies to Windows 8, including choosing safe boot and run any operating system compatible UEFI.
And if so, UEFI is not a panacea dose for rootkit problem and malicious software (malware) other low level.
Indeed, self UEFI is also for being a software and operating system so it is possible attack. The latest specification of the UEFI technology, version 2.3.1 (PDF), newly released in April, including some malware defense measures, such as device authentication has been registered and protected defense as the hash algorithm. However, while bringing UEFI boot faster, manage more storage capacity, better support, the threat of malware is still there.
UEFI boot help PC safety is great, but probably still only a dream!
